Introduction to Marine Energy
The Hawaiʻi Marine Energy Center (HMEC) will offer a one-week introductory short course on marine renewable energy from August 17–21, 2026 at UH Mānoa (Oʻahu). The course is designed for individuals with little or no prior experience, including advanced high school students, college students, and professionals interested in marine energy in Pacific Island contexts.
Participants will gain exposure to core concepts in marine energy, with an emphasis on wave energy, through a combination of lectures, numerical modeling, laboratory activities, and nearshore and offshore field experiences.
There is no registration fee, and travel support is expected to be provided for selected participants. Space is limited, and participation will be determined through an application process.

Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion
Discover how temperature differences in the ocean can be transformed into reliable, renewable power. This upcoming course explores OTEC from first principles to real-world deployment—covering system design, thermodynamics, engineering challenges, economic feasibility, environmental considerations, and permitting pathways, with a focus on Pacific Island applications.
Designed for students and professionals interested in energy systems, offshore engineering, and sustainable infrastructure, this course connects theory to practice through applied examples and regional context.
